Advocate & Data Practitioner
Legal Expertise
Peter is both an Advocate, Data Practitioner and a Chartered Secretary, being well placed to advise on corporate and commercial matters. In addition to undertaking more traditional corporate work, Peter has become something of a ‘go to’ man for interesting and unusual corporate structures and their uses, anti-money laundering issues and the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In 2017, Peter qualified as a Data Practitioner after undertaking an intensive GDPR Practitioner Certificate. He advises commercial, public and non-profit organisations on data protection and the GDPR, including conducting data protection audits and Privacy Impact Assessments. Peter’s qualification builds on his existing expertise in handling data protection matters for a major UK charity in the role of company secretary. In this position he was heavily involved in data protection, data auditing, first time registration and policy review.
In his previous life, Peter was involved in setting up and looking after trusts and companies, and has broad experience in the world of international planning. Give him a set of articles to look at or draft or a corporate transaction to plan and he will tackle the problem not just as a lawyer, but also as someone who can view it from a commercial perspective.
In addition, being involved in regulatory, governance and compliance matters, Peter has specialised in designing and managing bespoke corporate structures. These included using traditional share-issuing companies, guarantee and hybrid companies, unlimited companies, foundations, PCC’s and the Isle of Man Limited Liability Company.
Peter has been a regular speaker on the legal and practical aspects of compliance, corporate administration and corporate forms. More recently, he has also been advising on and providing training in respect of the new Freedom of Information Act, anti-money laundering, and data protection (especially the new GDPR).

…and now a bit of personality
Peter has left the Isle of Man three times, thinking he would never be able to get back. Being proud of his Island heritage, when he was finally able to settle back on the Island and decided to change career, there was never a question of training to be anything other than a Manx advocate.
